Medical University Admission

Medical University Admission: most of medical universities in Bulgaria have both English and Bulgarian programs (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, midwifery).  The first condition to get into medical study in Bulgaria is to have secondary school diploma with at least 62% maximum results in accordance with the grading system in the respective country in biology and chemistry (for general medicine, dentistry and pharmacy), 62% in biology (for midwifery and nursing).

Medical University Study Programs in English:

  1. General medicine study – 6 year programs, full time six year course of training in the specialty of Medicine which is structured in 2 years of pre-clinical study, 3 years of clinical study and one year of state clinical practice (internship). Successful graduate’s students are awarded a diploma of Master’s Degree is conferred to them along with the professional qualification Physician.
  2. Dentistry study – 6 year programs, full time six year course of training in the specialty of dentistry which is structured in 2 years of pre-clinical study, 3 years of clinical study and one year of state clinical practice (internship). Successful graduate’s students are awarded a diploma of Master’s Degree is conferred to them along with the professional qualification Dentistry specialist.
  3. Pharmacy study – 5 year program; full time 5 year course of training in the specialty of pharmacy which is structured in 2 years of pre-clinical study and 3 years of clinical study. Successful graduate’s students are awarded a diploma of Master’s Degree is conferred to them along with the professional qualification Pharmacist.
  4. Midwifery study – 4 year programs; successful graduates students are awarded a diploma of completed higher medical education of Bachelor’s Degree along with the professional qualification Midwifery;
  5. Nursing study 4 year program; successful graduates students are awarded a diploma of completed higher medical education of Bachelor’s Degree along with the professional qualification Nurse;
  6. Healthcare Management Study- 4 year program;
  7. Preparatory course of English – 1 year program;

The English medical study students have to attend compulsory classes in Bulgarian language (5 to 6 hours a week) for the first three years (Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy), first year (for Midwifery and Nursing) of training in order to be able to communicate with patients in the University hospital throughout their clinical studies. Note that some students decide to follow first one year preparatory course of Bulgarian language.

Application and admission to medical university in Bulgaria: first year student

The admission to medical university in Bulgaria in English is   by application file selection and all students are enrolled for training as self-paid students.

Application documents to medical studies:

  1. A secondary school leaving certificate with a statement of marks including the subjects of Biology and Chemistry. The average mark in Biology and Chemistry should be equal or higher than 62% of the possible maximum in the country. The certificate should be translated into Bulgarian language and legalized at the Bulgarian Embassy in the respective country.
  2. A medical certificate issued not earlier than one month prior to the application date, stating that the applicant does not suffer from any communicable diseases, being in good physical and mental health to pursue a training course in Medicine. This certificate should be translated and legalized in the above way.
  3. A certificate stating that the applicant has the right  (is eligible) to continue his/her education into a higher educational institution in his/her own country, translated and legalized in the above mentioned way.
  4. For students, coming from countries, where English is not the official language – proof of level of English (both spoken and written) – TOEFL 550, Cambridge First Certificate or ILTS 6.This document should be translated and legalized in the above way. The Universities offer one year preparatory course in English language for students who cannot meet this requirement.
  5. Four recently taken colour photos (passport size);
  6. Copy of the international passport;
  7. Letter of financial support, signed by one of the applicant’s parents or any other relative, or issued by their representative bank;
  8. An application form with an attached brief CV of the candidate students;

 

Transfer student application documents:

Medical student who has completed at least one academic year in a medical faculty (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy) abroad or in Bulgaria, in medical specialty (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy)  can transfer  earned credits to any medical university in Bulgaria, provided that they are  free places.

List of required documents for transfer of student to medical university in Bulgaria:

  1. A secondary school leaving certificate with a statement of marks including the subjects of Biology and Chemistry. The certificate should be translated into Bulgarian language and legalized at the Bulgarian Embassy in the respective country;
  2.   7. A transcript of records, issued by the faculty they have studied abroad, presenting the following information: the names of the studied disciplines; the total number of contact hours for theoretical and practical classes; the marks obtained in each discipline; the grading system in the respective country. This transcript of records should be translated into Bulgarian language and legalized at the Bulgarian Embassy in the respective country. If difficulties with the translation occur, the transcript can be legalized and presented in English language. In these cases, the University will collect a fee for the authorized translation;
  8. An application form with a short CV included;
